The Lilies

The Lilies have a top secret arts and crafts project. Colour, feathers and lots of glue. What can it be? All will be revealed at the summer party next Wednesday....

This week is garden week and the lilies have helped a lot. This morning we had special helpers too.

This morning the children made their very own colorful pirate hats! They used recycled materials, ribbons, glitter, glue, crayons. A great fun way to develop fine motor skills.

This morning the Lilies really did not want to come in...it was warm and they were way to busy. So we stayed out, taking all of our activities with us! We made a home for a snail and it's baby. We did a counting and Maths activity as well as an art activity making "friend" puppets.  We played house and looked after our baby. We when sat the table and had our lunch outside, before they ran off to continue their fun, games and learning. They have really enjoyed taking the preschool outside! Maths, language, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, science, we've done it all.

This morning the Lilies spent time learning all about the circle of life! We made our own mini garden. We planted different seeds. Lettuce, cress, Brazilian beans and flowers. Each child got their own mini plot of land and will be responsible for it. They will water it, care for it, give it love and watch their seeds grow.

As part of our IPC Food theme this afternoon we spent time talking about best before and sell by dates on food. Why we have them and what they are for. The children then looked through a number of food packaging to see if they could find the sell by date. They did and were very happy! After, we split up into two groups, 8 in children in each group. Each team had a team leader. They drew a plan after talking about they wanted to build. They built a house and a robot using the packaging.

Today the children got to experience the magic of the Makey Makey. We talked about electricity, how it conducts and what we can do with it. We then, using the Makey Makey made ourselves make sounds by connecting to the device. We made a piano out of bananas. We investigated how far the electricity could travel by all holding hands allowing the electricity to flow through us. It was a very popular activity and now the children believe that we can make a piano out of bananas! This is just the begining for a new Makey Makey. What else can we do?

The Lilies are enjoying reading so much. We will read to the children on a daily basis books in both Swedish and English. They will also read in the library themselves on a daily basis. The children have started to now read to each other in small groups. It's really fun to watch.

During quiet time we have started making up our own stories using puppets and different props. The children will play the characters, hold the props and decided the twists and turns the story will take. It's become a very popular part of the day.

Capoeira Pratice

Today the Lilies had their first Capoeira class. Capoeira is a dance form incorporating martial arts elements, originating in Africa and in Brazil as a system of physical discipline and movement.

China, the teacher is from Brazil. He did a short presentation of Capoeira for us before the class. The lilies were very excited!
