The Lilies

This morning the Lilies spent time learning all about the circle of life! We made our own mini garden. We planted different seeds. Lettuce, cress, Brazilian beans and flowers. Each child got their own mini plot of land and will be responsible for it. They will water it, care for it, give it love and watch their seeds grow.

Lpfö: Develop their interest and understanding of the different cycles in nature , and how people, nature and society influence each other

Sunflowers

Sunflowers: Language and Jolly Phonics

Today was our language day  and the Sunflowers were introduced to one of the letters in the third Jolly Phonics group: O. At circle time they listened to the Jolly Phonics story and practised writing an O in the air with their finger. We mentioned words that begin with the sound  O such as “orange,” “octopus” and “oval” as well as the others  which have O in them, like “hot”, “mop”, “dog” and “pot”.  Then they  practised tracing the letter O. They  also revised the Jolly Phonics group 2 sounds and were invited to create an  -AT word family house where they had to think about sounds which can be put in front of an  -AT suffix to create new words, like “CAT”, “HAT”,”FAT” or even only “AT”.

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

“develop their use of spoken language, vocabulary, and concepts, as well as the ability to play with words, relate something, express their thoughts, put questions and put forwards their arguments and communicate with others.”

Sunflowers

Sunflowers : Outing to Futuraskolan International

Today the children have had a wonderful time at Futuraskolan International. The primary school class greeted our group of shy (at first) Sunflowers.  The children had a buddy to guide them throughout their morning routine.  The children participated in a lesson on the life cycle of a duck and listened to the story entitled “ Are You My Mother”. We had lunch with the class and played outside. We had a wonderful time with the group and our children were very proud of being apart of “Big kids school”!

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

“develop their ability to function individually  and in a group, handle conflicts and understand rights and obligations, as well as take responsibility for common rules”

The Lilies

As part of our IPC Food theme this afternoon we spent time talking about best before and sell by dates on food. Why we have them and what they are for. The children then looked through a number of food packaging to see if they could find the sell by date. They did and were very happy! After, we split up into two groups, 8 in children in each group. Each team had a team leader. They drew a plan after talking about they wanted to build. They built a house and a robot using the packaging.
LPFÖ:
Develop their ability to build, create and design using different materials and techniques
