Sunflowers

IPC TRANSPORT ENTRY POINT
As part of our IPC Transport theme entry point the Sunflowers were each invited to bring in a suitcase and pack it with 5 items they would take on a trip. The children got to show all of the items in their bags and share why they packed them with the group. Items ranged from toothbrushes, toilet paper, books, cuddly toys and clothes. Each Sunflower also received a passport that they will use as part of our of the theme. Each week the sunflowers will travel to a different destination through the children’s individual circle times. They will receive a stamp for each country visited.

 Futura Olympics Day

Lilies and Tulips joined together in the football field beside our school! We had a big circle time first and the snack! We did 3 stations with the kids where they competed trying to win the game! The First Station was The Tunnel Crawl Race where two teams competed crawling in the soft grass! The Second Station was an Obstacle Course Run with cones where two teams competed trying to jump over the cones! Finally The Third Station was The Ball Toss where two teams competed trying to put as many balls as possible in to the small red box.
We had a great time! The kids were happy to run in that big and soft field!

Lilies

As part of our entry point to our new IPC Theme “Sand and Water” we introduced 4 different sensory activities for the children to explore freely.

BUG SLIME: The children got to explore a sticky, slimy mixture of sand, food colouring, water and shaving foam. They were able to add different animals to the mix and explore how it felt and changed when we added more water. The children really enjoyed this very sticky and gooey mess!

Shaving foam mud sand. This activity was thicker in texture allowing the children to build structures and shapes using the very solid and thick sand.

BUBBLES AND WATER STATION: This activity allowed the children to explore water and bubbles. They measured and poured water, splashed to create bubbles. They were also able to experiment with things that floated and why they floated or why they did not. They also spent time blowing coloured bubbles of their own using straws, soapy coloured water.

SEASIDE SENSORY ART: After talking about the beach and asking who has been before, we will discuss how some beaches have soft sand and that the water appears blue and green. Children were then presented with paint, printed shells, crumpled paper, and sand to create a beach painting.

As an entry point these activities were a fantastic way to introduce the theme of water and sand to the children. With little or no direction from the adults they moved from one station to another, some even mixing and experimenting. We will reintroduce the stations in the coming weeks as individual activities for more focused exploration.

IPC TRANSPORT KNOWLEDGE HARVEST

During the Sunflowers morning circle time the sunflowers sat down together and brainstormed what we already knew as a group about transport. We made sure that all the children had a chance to speak and to contribute their thoughts and ideas. This is so we can find a starting point to work on based on the children’s interests. The children knew a lot and were very enthusiastic about the theme. They spoke about different types of transport, cars, bus, train etc; They also discussed together how lots of different vehicles can travel in different environments, like helicopters and cars in water. They discussed how they came to work as well as discussed if walking was transport. They agreed it was as “you go from one place to another”. They spoke about taking planes on holiday to places “far away”. Some even spoke about submarines and fast and slow transportation.. The children are really looking forward to the theme!
