Afterwards we were all very busy getting ready for the party which included both teachers and children putting our costumes on. After we had watched Rio cartoon, we started with our final preparations. The Summer Party started at 3pm sharp and all the children greeted their parents entering the front yard from the back. First came The Lilies dressed like Indians, then came The Sunflowers dressed like Hawaiians, afterwards came The Tulips dressed like birds and the last ones were The Daisies dressed like butterflies. All the children were super cute in their costumes and we all danced and sang to the songs and the music like the carnival in Brazil which was the theme of the show. We entered the yard singing “ If You Are Happy”, then continued with “ Mr. Sun,Mr. Golden Sun”and “ Bon Dia” and ended our performance with “ Ai Se Tu Pego”. All the parents were delighted and happy to see their children singing in Portuguese and dancing in the carnival style of Brazil.Above all they were amazed to see their carnival costumes. Afterwards everyone enjoyed the real Brazilian carnival performance by the real dancers and ourCapoeira instructor China also performed with his group showing the well-known movements of this Brazilian Martial Arts Game .Finally, we had our Graduation Ceremony for The Sunflowers who will leave the school in June and startThe Big Kids’ School in August. Eleven Sunflowers graduated wearing their Graduation Hats! Congratulations our dear Sunflowers! We wish you all the best in The Big Kids' School! Both parents and the children had a great time on our fantastic and successful Summer Party. We will all have wonderful memories of Our Fabulous Party and we would like to thank all the parents for coming to the party and making it happen with their help! Sunflowers: Butterfly House Outing.

As the exit point for our Changes theme, the Sunflowers went to the Butterfly House (fjärilshuset) in Hagaparken. Once inside the children were immediately aware of how hot and humid it was. We talked about these conditions as necessary for the butterflies to survive. We then watched butterflies landing on flowers. We mentioned that flowers make nectar and that the butterflies eat it. We then made a connection between nectar that the butterflies eat in nature and the sugar water we fed our butterflies, before we released them. The Sunflowers were also impressed to see rows of cocoons and reflected on having seen our caterpillars transforming into cocoons. Finally, they were excited to see several reefs sharks in the aquarium. They were in awe of the way they moved through the water and the size of their teeth! We would like to thank the parents and guardians who joined us on our outing. It made it that much more enjoyable for everyone!

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

“develop their understanding of science and relationships to nature”
“ develop their interest and understanding of the different cycles in nature and how people, nature and society influence each other”

Tulips

Artic Fox Fans

To continue with our IPC theme of Artic Animals, the tulips made the Artic Fox by sticking the eyes and the mouth of the fox using the black paper. While doing the activity, it was so hot that they all decided to turn it into a fan and attached it to the peg to finish it.

Our activity met the following goal, as specified by Lpfö 98 2010:

  • ●  Develop a rich and varied spoken language and the ability to communicate with others and to express their thoughts,

  • ●  Develop their creativity to build and create things using different techniques and material

  • ●  Develop their curiosity and enjoyment at the same time as the ability to play and

    learn

Outing

Last week the Daisies had a wonderful outing in the sun. We played in the sand and went on the slide. Climbing up the slide can be tricky for a small Daisy. Luckily there were some older school children at the boat park and they were more than happy to help out a Daisy in need!

Sunflowers: Trip To The Botanical Gardens

Today Sunflowers had so much fun visiting The Botanical Gardens close to Stockholm University. We caught the ten o’clock Roslagsbanan from Djursholm and arrived at  the beautiful landscape close to the Botanical Gardens with a lot of flowers, plants and a small pond with ducks and swans swimming together. We enjoyed a wonderful sunny weather and had our snack in nature sitting on our colorful parachute which we brought from school. Then we played a parachute game where the children were invited to take turns and change their positions by hiding and running under the parachute. We had a wonderful time!Sunflowers were very excited and happy to go through Botanical Gardens Open Exhibition where we saw a lot of gorgeous flowers, plants and trees. We even saw some butterflies playing in the flowers and birds singing on the trees with beautiful spring blossom.Could they be our lady butterflies, we asked ourselves!!! Children really enjoyed playing in The Botanical Gardens Park and we had a great time racing together. Finally,we took our train back to school and had lunch all feeling very tired and hungry. Summer Party Practice was waiting for us in the afternoon, so we had to take some rest and gather strength on our way back!

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:
