Dinosaur food

Today we continued our work from Friday about herbivores and carnivores. This time we focused on herbivores or plant-eaters. The Daisies got to color pictures of grass and leaves that we will use to make a herbivore collage. Maybe you think that leaves and grass are green? Well, in Daisies-land it can be any color you want!

Sunflowers

Sunflowers:Butterflies Back To Nature

Today was a big day for Sunflowers as we set our beautifully painted butterflies free! Our lady butterflies formed their wings and came out of their cocoons last week and we were feeding them with sugar and water until today! After our free play outside in the yard, all the groups excitedly gathered in a circle and waited for this special moment! The weather conditions were almost perfect and we were ready to open our Live Butterfly Garden! Four beautiful lady butterflies came out and embraced their freedom! It was their return to nature where they belong!

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:
“develop their understanding of science and relationships to nature, as well as knowledge of plants, animals and also simple chemical processes and physical phenomena”
“ develop their interest and understanding of the different cycles in nature and how people, nature and society influence each other”

Tulips

  1. Polar Animal Memory Game

Teacher placed some pair cards of polar animals on the table and children flipped two cards in each turn and then turned them back upside down. This way they had to remember the place of each animal so that they can try to pick the pair of same animal among all the cards.

    Lpfö goals:

    • Develop their vocabulary and concepts, the ability to play with words, an interest in the written language and an understanding of symbols as well as their communicative functions,

Develop their curiosity and enjoyment, as well as their ability to play and learn.

Tulips

Tulips did a hand-on experience to see How the Polar animals keep themselves Warm. To begin with they dipped their hand in the icy cold water and counted to 5 and almost shouted that it was Cold. Then they put their hands in the bag of shortening and touched the cold water and felt that didn't feel so cold. This helped them to understand that the fat in the animals body helps them to keep warm.

Our activity met the following goals, as specified by Lpfö 98- 2010

Develop their use of spoken language, vocabulary and concepts, as well as the ability to play with word, relate something, express their arguments and communicate with others.

Develop their understanding of science and relationships to nature, as well as knowledge of plants, animals, and also simple chemical processes made physical phenomena.

Daisies Dino-bingo

Last week we played a game with the Daisies called Dino-bingo. We used a wheel that showed pictures of different kind of dinosaurs. The Daisies then took turn in spinning the wheel and see which dinosaur it showed. Then the children had to try to find the same picture on their bingo card. It was a little bit tricky but the Daisies did an amazing job!

Sunflowers

Sunflowers : Terrariums

Children collected their jars. They added stones, sand and soil to them, in layers. Then they added alfalfa seeds to the soil and watered them. The Sunflowers now have their very own terrariums. The seeds are already starting to sprout!

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

“ develop their understanding of science and relationships to nature, as well as knowledge of plants, animals and also simple chemical processes and physical phenomena”
“develop their ability to build, create and construct using different techniques, materials and tools”

The Lilies

This morning the Lilies really did not want to come in...it was warm and they were way to busy. So we stayed out, taking all of our activities with us! We made a home for a snail and it's baby. We did a counting and Maths activity as well as an art activity making "friend" puppets.  We played house and looked after our baby. We when sat the table and had our lunch outside, before they ran off to continue their fun, games and learning. They have really enjoyed taking the preschool outside! Maths, language, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, science, we've done it all.
Lpfö: acquire and be able to differentiate shades of meaning in concepts, see interconnections and discover new ways of understanding the surrounding world

Daisies Dinosaurs

Today we read a book about dinosaurs. We looked at the colorful pictures in the book and learned more about different types of dinosaurs. For instance that some dinosaurs ate meat and others ate leaves from the trees. Afterwards the Daisies used crayons to color pictures of a dinosaur.

Sunflowers: Vanilla Cake Baking,Art Show and Market Day

Today was a big day for all children in Futuraskolan Danderyd as it was our Art Show and Market Day! In the morning, all the groups were very busy in the dining room, baking and making delicious cookies and cakes for our fika sale. The Sunflowers were really excited to mix all the ingredients and help us make a very “yummy” vanilla cake. The Art Exhibition and the sale of second-hand kids toys and clothes started in the afternoon. Parents really enjoyed seeing all those wonderful works of art, but especially our little masterpieces- Self-Portraits, Clay Butterflies and Glass Jar Candle Holders. They also had a lot of fun trying out our delicious cookies and cakes and chatting with the teachers and other parents in the dining room. The Art Show and Market Day were very successful and we are all happy and glad to say that we raised a lot of money for our Summer Party in June. Sunflowers: Recognising Shapes and Shape Sequences

During circle time, the children were invited to identify different shapes. They were very happy
to do so and are very good at shape recognition. For their first maths activity, the Sunflowers
were asked to look at a picture made up of various shapes. Of these, there were invited to
identify the number of triangles, rectangles, diamonds and squares. Additionally, they completed
several shape sequences such as: circle, triangle and square.

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:
“develop their understanding of space, shapes...and the basic properties of sets, quantity, order and number concepts”
