Sunflowers

Sunflowers: Butterfly House Outing.

As the exit point for our Changes theme, the Sunflowers went to the Butterfly House (fjärilshuset) in Hagaparken. Once inside the children were immediately aware of how hot and humid it was. We talked about these conditions as necessary for the butterflies to survive. We then watched butterflies landing on flowers. We mentioned that flowers make nectar and that the butterflies eat it. We then made a connection between nectar that the butterflies eat in nature and the sugar water we fed our butterflies, before we released them. The Sunflowers were also impressed to see rows of cocoons and reflected on having seen our caterpillars transforming into cocoons. Finally, they were excited to see several reefs sharks in the aquarium. They were in awe of the way they moved through the water and the size of their teeth! We would like to thank the parents and guardians who joined us on our outing. It made it that much more enjoyable for everyone!

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

“develop their understanding of science and relationships to nature”
“ develop their interest and understanding of the different cycles in nature and how people, nature and society influence each other”
